Pebble relaunched their Meetup group back in October as the developer community grows around one of the best smart watches on the market.

Pebble, which received the majority of it’s initial funding through Kickstarter, addressed a number of functional issues to ensure success of the product, such as delivering a seven day battery life, water resistance, being readable in daylight with a white e-paper display on top of the device working on Android and iOS.

Pebble has it’s own SDK which they promote as being suitable for both experienced low level programmers and beginners and the tutorials explain contextually how to create a new watch face using CloudPebble, Pebble’s web-based IDE.

The guide folds in a step by step guide with a great UI from watch face basics through first compilation and installation to customisation and adding content from the web. Apps are published via the developer portal to the Pebble Appstore.

In December Pebble also announced version 2.3 of their Android app gave Pebble the power to reply and act on notifications from the watch, a shortcoming which may have previously anchored sales back against Android Wear devices.

Previously you had to install a third party notifier app as Pebble would only deliver basic information to the device but now Android is sharing the love, it is allowing one of it’s main competitors to maintain a healthy trajectory in it’s following.
