Kitematic is an installer to set up Docker on your Mac whilst also providing a GUI which allows you to easily run and manage containers. The project, which was launched in late 2014, has recently been merged into the Docker project and has since gained fantastic momentum from the community with more than 2000 stars on GitHub on top of active and healthy technical input and messages of support from users.
The project’s previous incarnation was born at college by three students that created a prototype video of a cloud development service which was posted on Hacker News and immediately had 700 developers interested in signing up for the service. Whilst the initial service proved financially unsustainable, the founders did what any good business should do which is go back to the drawing board.. fast. The drawing board happened to have Docker written all over it as the tool which had inspired the initial concept and Kitematic was soon created to provide an easy way of getting developers started with Docker on a Mac.
The Kitematic team will be joining the Docker Online Meetup to introduce the product and how it fits into the Docker ecosystem at 9am (PDT) on Tuesday 17th March.
